When Devon was a senior at PHS he was awarded The Coach's Award for being an outstanding teammate, always being the first to arrive and the last to leave practices, always having a positive attitude, and for always encouraging his team mates. These are the qualities we look for in two graduating seniors, one each from the PHS soccer and lacrosse teams.
Devon's brother Zac wanted to do something to honor his younger. A scholarship in Devon's name that would recognize other soccer and lacrosse player graduating from Portland High School was what Zac wanted to do. So, in the fall of 2013 we held the First Annual DAM Golf Tourney. We raised enough money to award 2 scholarships, each for $2,500.00.
At The 2nd Annual DAM Golf Tournament, we were even more successful. Our generous sponsors, players, family and friends raised enough money for two more $2,500.00 scholarships, with enough to also donate more than $7,000.00 to Johns Hopkins. What a wonderful effort by all.
At The 3rd Annual DAM Golf Tournament we sold out and raised even more than in years 1 or 2. We were able to award 2 scholarship checks each worth $3,400.00 and we made another donation to Johns Hopkins in the amount of $10,540.00.
The 4th Annual DAM Golf Tournament was another great success. We raised enough money to award 2 scholarship checks each worth $3,000.00 and donate a little more than $6,200.00 to John Hopkins.
The 5th Annual DAM Golf Tournament was a great success. I guess we are getting good at this and everyone who came out to play or those who donated auction items and prizes were very generous. What a day we had. We raised enough to award two scholarship checks, each for $3,500.00 and donate another $5,000.00 to Johns Hopkins. Thank you all so much for your participation and generosity.
The 6th Annual DAM Golf Tournament, We did not have a very large crown but they were the most generous group we had. Another $5,500.00 will be donated to Johns Hopkins and two $4,000.00 scholarship checks2023 were be awarded.
In the spring of 2023 we awarded 4 scholarships for the 1st time. All 4 went to Soccer and LaCrosse players, all seniors at Portland High School. A male and a female player from each sport. We are very happy to recognize both male and female athletes going forward and we went over $150,000 total money awarded and donated. Our 10-year goal was $100,000 and we crushed it.
In the fall of 2023 the 11th Annual DAM Golf Tournament was held. We had our 3rd sell out, the 2nd in a row. We had 120 golfers and raised enough $$ to award (we hope) another $25,000 next spring in 4 scholarships. Thanks you to all our sponsors and players and volunteers.
